Your mood is how you feel at any moment, you can be in a good mood and feel happy, or in a bad mood, where you will most probably feel agitated and grumpy.

Everyone gets moody at times, (usually meaning grumpy) is a natural part of your emotional rhythm.

If you understand why you are in a bad mood, then you can manage them, and try change it quicker.

I doubt you will ever be asked “what is your mood?” The most common way to ask this question is “how are you feeling?”

Or if you think someone is feeling unwell or under the weather you may ask “are you feeling okay?”

Sometimes we can feel overwhelmed by emotions and we think we can’t control our moods, but we can influence and choose our mood.

This is a massive part of being “emotionally intelligent”

SELF AWARENESS – This is the first step in attaining high levels of emotional intelligence, understanding, and knowing oneself. Being honest with themselves and to accept and harness their strengths, weaknesses, to make the best choices in their life and achieve their goals.

SELF REGULATION – People who can self-regulate are able to keep control of their emotions, keeping relaxed and calm in situations where it can be easy to overreact.

EMPATHY – Having empathy for other people, means being aware of the emotions and feelings that your friends and family are going through.

MOTIVATION – Having passion for achieving, being driven by their goals and over-coming challenges.  Inspiring and motivating those around them.

SOCIAL SKILLS – Having the skill to understand people, motivate others and develop relationships.

ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OWN SELF

Once you accept that YOU are in control of your own moods and that you are fully responsible for how you feel then your life can change forever.

Yes, this is probably one of the hardest things to do, especially when someone is “annoying” you or “being rude” to you.

The issue here is we cannot control the person who is causing you to feel this way, but we can control how we react to this person.

We should never take things to heart that someone else does, as this is their issue not yours, they might be going through something and then they take it out on you.

If you can walk away from this situation with your head high, not interacting or reacting with these negative actions, you are truly in control of yourself and your emotions.

Accepting the other persons actions and walking away means you have the power and you have not given it away.

Worrying is another thing we can control, what’s going on around us we cannot.

If you are worried about the weather, there is no point.

If you are panicking about the economy, there is no point.

If you are in a state about what the future will bring there is no point.

These thoughts are usually habits and are subconscious, meaning you did not choose these thoughts they are choosing you.

How you feel, and the mood you are in, is in your control,

Remind yourself if you try your best in each moment, and are being responsible for how you feel, you are doing your best.

Worrying only takes away your happiness, joy, and self-control in your every moment.

Just let it go.

Always remember you are one thought away from a good mood.

IS MINDSET THE SAME AS MOOD? 

 Moods are emotions we feel, mindset is the thoughts that go along with that mood.

They both go hand in hand, as your thoughts influence your mood.

While strengthening your mind can help with both mindset and mood, the way to strengthen it, is to fill your mind with positive affirmations and actions to retrain your brain.

Firstly, by being aware of your emotions, as we have mentioned previously, the next part will be easier to add to your daily routine.

  1. Allow yourself to let go of anything that’s upsetting you, recognise it for what it is, ask yourself does this really matter, if it does find a solution and deal with it, don’t let it linger too long. If it doesn’t, let it go and MOVE ON.
  2. Write a gratitude list, when you are grateful all the things you have its hard to be in a “bad mood”. Being grateful totally shifts your mindset and attitude. Strengthening your brain, to look on the positive aspects of life.
  3. Set your intentions for the day, week, month and/or year, being focused on your goals and achieving them keeps your mind set on the life you want rather than worrying about things that you cannot control.
  4. Get your favourite tune blasting, being in the moment and letting yourself go, allowing yourself to enjoy the music, this can rapidly change your mood and mindset, especially when you are in the gym training, outdoors running or even at home doing daily house chores.
